The Mediterranean diet, typical of Spain, is much more than a nutritional guideline. It involves a lifestyle combining a diet pattern tied to traditional food and fresh produce, a way of sharing consumption of food and traditions, taking moderate physical exercise daily and a mild climate. The outcome is an outstanding healthy lifestyle that is unversally recognised.

In fact, in 2010 the Mediterranean diet was added to the UNESCO list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

It is characterised by plenty of vegetal food, such as bread, pasta, rice, vegetables, fruit and nuts. Furthermore, the consumption of olive oil is essential, as well as a moderate diet of fish, seafood, poultry and dairy (yogurt, cheese) and eggs. Also, a moderate consumption of wine and red meat is typical of this diet.
